What is the Master Gardener Program?

The Master Gardener program was established to assist cooperative extension in reaching the consumer horticulture audience. The program provides interested individuals with extensive training in many phases of gardening. In return, participants dedicate volunteer time to educate and assist the community in matters relating to gardening.

The volunteers respond to questions posed by consumers and present workshops, lectures and demonstrations to garden clubs, school groups, civic organizations and the general public. They prepare home gardening newsletters, educational leaflets and displays. Master Gardeners also work with special needs audiences. For more information about participating in the program or to request services, e-mail elf3@psu.edu.
